Rick Upton’s SCU MBA Courses

Introduction

Sometimes people ask me “Which course did we take together?” and “Why did you take so long to graduate?”  For the answers to these and other potential questions regarding my education in Santa Clara University’s MBA program, here are the following:

  1. Courses
  2. Five Years?

Another page on this site show which courses were applicable towards Santa Clara University’s requirements for four MBA concentrations.

Courses

Here was my roadmap to graduation with an MBA.  Note that some instructors taught the same course in more than one section, so if you took the same course with the same instructor during the same term as I did, we may have been in different sections.

Five Years?

Santa Clara University allowed MBA students to take up to six years to graduate.  Here are the reasons I took five years instead of two or three years, as is more typical of SCU MBA students:

  1. I wanted to get as much out of each class as possible.  Doing so meant taking as few courses at a time as possible.
  2. I wanted to have some time for social and family life, as well as time for extra effort at work.
  3. I wanted to enjoy my summers doing other things while the weather is the nicest, and take classes when the weather isn’t so nice.
  4. I enjoyed my current employment position, so there was no rush to get a degree to get another job.

Of course, your situation may be different than mine, so going at a slower pace may not be best for you.
